Entomology: For The Flyfisher & How To Match The Hatch – Friday

Time: Friday 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Instructor: Peter Stitcher

Cost: $50

Join Aquatic Biologist Peter Stitcher for the in-depth class that every fly fisher needs to attend: Entomology for the Fly Fisher and How to Match the Hatch in 2 Minutes.  In this all-level class, the participant will learn how to sample the water and identify – at a glance – each of the major trout foods and the fly patterns that match them.  Just as the trout follow and feed on aquatic insects throughout their life cycle, so the participant will learn not only identify the family of insect and life-cycles that are active and being targeted, but how to anticipate where that food and the trout will be heading next and be ready to greet them with the next hot pattern.

Topics covered in this class include:

  • Understanding Why Trout Target Specific Foods & How to Exploit Those Preferences
  • Invertebrate Identification on the Water & in the Fly Box
  • Using Hatch Charts as a 4-Season Guide to the Water
  • Understanding Water Temperature & How it Affects the Bite
  • Interpreting Trout Feeding Behavior
  • How to Sample the Trout Food & Choose the Best Flies on the Water

The cost of this 2 ½ hour class also includes the day’s entry to the Fly Fishing Show, 15 flies, and a packet of notes. After this class, the participant will be able to quickly sample and identify what the trout are eating on the water and match every hatch!
